  • Thormanby I, Sunshine Coast, BC

This off-grid cabin on the remote island of B.C. uses locally sourced materials and a design that emphasizes simplicity and sustainability. Inside, an open-concept layout promotes communal living, and is connected to covered and open exterior gathering spaces. A lofted sleeping area provides a serene retreat, framed by large windows that capture the view of the water and the summer sunsets. The outcome is a place of gathering and relaxation, and connection to the land.

  • Thormanby II, Sunshine Coast, BC

Situated on the shoreline of a remote island in B.C.'s Sunshine Coast, this off-grid seasonal cabin is designed to maximize daylight, natural ventilation, and rainwater collection. Built with locally sourced heavy timber, the open-plan interior seamlessly flows onto a spacious deck and connects to a sleeping cabin via a covered breezeway.

  • Thormanby III, Sunshine Coast, BC

The renovation of the existing heritage off-grid cabin is designed to preserve the character of the original structure while adapting it for comfortable year-round use by a growing family. The project will improve the layout to maximize usable space through flexible living areas and efficient storage, while upgrades to the building envelope — including improved insulation, air sealing, and high-performance windows — will enhance energy efficiency, durability, and comfort in all seasons. The design balances sustainability, functionality, and respect for the cabin’s historic character, creating a resilient and welcoming family retreat.

  • Sleeping Cabin I

The two-bedroom sleeping cabin is designed as a simple and welcoming overflow space that complements the existing cabin while providing privacy and comfort for family and guests. The building is carefully oriented behind the existing main cabin, with a connected deck that extends the living space to the surrounding landscape and private lawn, creating a quiet and comfortable coastal retreat.

  • Sleeping Cabin II

Nestled into the bluff, facing a small bay on a remote island, the small two bedroom sleeping cabin is clad in locally sourced cedar and the simple shed roof form allows for maximum daylight, views to the ocean, and deck space on the waterside. The compact design emphasizes efficiency, natural light, and creates a private and comfortable coastal retreat.
